Update 26 June 2008
From a recent container break in we have recieved feedback from members that the locks described below are fairly pricey, have limited use and are able to be damaged.  After asking members to offer solution ideas for our members we received the following:
  • If receiving goods in containers arrange for the containers to be delivered early enough in the day to ensure they can be emptied before end of business day.
  • In some situations a container can be delivered to sit with its door opening facing your warehouse and positioned right against the closed roller door.  This dissuades anyone from getting access to the goods inside and once the roller door is open, legitimate access can be gained from inside premises.
  •  One member has found a solution with a bit of kiwi ingenuity:

    • Purchase some large concrete blocks ( about 1metre cubed and available locally)
    • Bolt some steel channel to the bottom of one block so it could be picked up with the forklift.
    • Put this block right up against the padlocked door and stack a second block on top
Both time and machinery are required to shift these and while not impossible, with the                     combination of the lock also,  the longer it takes a thief to break in, the less likely he is to
    choose your premises.
Padlocks for use with containers –
The lock below is one type of lock recommended for use on containers that should be effective in reducing thefts of goods stored inside containers.
