Local Government Reorganisation
With the move to a unitary Auckland Council, changes need to be carefully audited for their implications for business.
GETBA has closely monitored the local government reorganisation, liaised with key local and central government personnel and made submissions as part of the consultation process.
It is critical that the infrastructure services and the cost of those services provided by the new Council Controlled Organisations (CCO) be examined and critiqued by GETBA.
Current local government consultations
The Draft Auckland Waste Management and Minimisation Plan: Auckland Council has released a draft plan to establish a consistent and affordable waste management and minimisation system across the unified Auckland Council area. Submissions close at 4.00pm on Tuesday 31 January. See GETBA's submission, particularly in relation to supporting the proposal for extending recycling services to include our industrial area similar to that enjoyed by residential ratepayers and commercial properties in the old Auckland City boundaries.
The Draft Auckland Plan: Auckland Council released four different plans identifying priorities for Auckland's development over the next 30 years. See GETBA's submission under GETBA Submissions on the left menu. Hearings have taken place and the final Auckland Plan is expected to be adopted at the end of March.
Collaborative approach.
For a major industrial area such as East Tamaki it is critical that decision making is made at a regional rather than local level. East Tamaki has much more in common with the other major industrial zones of the Auckland region than is able to be addressed at the level of the two Local Boards within whose boundaries we lie. The collective strength through collaboration of commercial industrial BIDs across Auckland is being actively pursued.
