Transport/Roading
GETBA is focused on keeping traffic moving!
East Tamaki is a major hub for manufacturing and logistics and an employment hub for 30,000 staff. Recent Focus Groups identified that the efficient movement of both freight and people is key to the ability of businesses to improve productivity and to attract and retain staff.
We continue to work with Auckland Transport on all aspects of roading and transport, and have highlighted the importance of prioritising effective freight corridors in our submissions to Auckland Council's long term plan with particular regard to AMETI and SH1-20 East West Corridor. The provision of effective public transport is also vital.
We are in the process of developing a GETBA Transport Strategy. Auckland Transport is colllating the information supplied in the March 2012 survey of East Tamaki employers. This together with other research undertaken by Auckland Transport will be the basis of a State of Transport Report and help in the development of travel planning actions.
Current Roading Developments
- the widening of Smales and Allens Roads and new intersetion
- the realignment of the Preston/East Tamaki and Ormiston Road intersection
- and the Auckland Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative (AMETI).
GETBA's submissions as part of the consent process with regard to these projects have been supportive of the economic benefit of improved traffic flows, but also stressed the importance of adequate and effective consultation with affected businesses.
Pressure points:
Trugood/Cryers Intersection - we are advised that this intersection will be assessed at the end of 2012 as part of AMETI and that any permanent improvements are not likely for another 5 years! However in the short term Auckland Transport will undertake a review of the intersection mid February to identify ways to minimise dangerous behaviours.
We will keep you informed of developments.
NB Auckland Transport has regular progress updates on projects as well as weekly notifications of roadworks disruptions. For the latest AMETI Newsletter.
