Emergency Response Plan

The first for an industrial area

GETBA has been working with Auckland Council Civil Defence to develop a Neighbourhood Response Plan for the East Tamaki business community.

In the event of an emergency or disaster we will have a plan ready to be activated and will be able to assist Civil Defence and the emergency services in the local response, helping to warn/notify businesses, establishing a community incident control point, and if required setting up a welfare centre and helping vulnerable businesses/employees to safety.

A core management group of 6 people who have business continuity/facilities management roles within larger organisations in the area (Fisher & Paykel Appliances, Transpacific Technical Services, NALCO, Goodman - Highbrook Business Park, Farmers Trading Company and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare) together with the GETBA General Manager and Office Manager have collaborated with Civil Defence and high level emergency services personnel to develop the plan.

Members of the group are continuing to work in their local area to develop Tele Trees so that if the disaster prevents the use of our usual email alert notification we can activate the Tele Tree using either cellular phones, land line, or door-knocking as a last resort.

Business Continuity Planning

It is intended that one of the flow-on effects of the umbrella plan is that individual businesses in the area will develop their own business continuity plans. CDEM are working on a business resilience project which includes the development of a web based business continuity planning tool. This should be launched in May. The Ministry of Civil Defence has emergency response guidelines for business.

Does your business have a survival kit?

Civil Defence recommends businesses ensure that they are able to survive for 3 days without assistance by having as an absolute minimum the following:

    * Water (3 litres per person, per day)
    * Canned, non perishable food
    * Torch and radio (with spare batteries)
    * Toilet paper, plastic bags and bucket
    * First aid kit and essential medicines
    * BBQ or other means of cooking
    * Face and dust masks
